About Us

Now Your Cat Can Have the Best Health Care, Thanks to our Animal Hospital’s English-Speaking Veterinarian

Welcome to Cabinet Veterinaire International’s website – one that we hope you will find comprehensive and informative – much like our own English speaking veterinarian, Dr. N.J. Omaboe.

You’ll find us only minutes from Geneva and Nyon, on Route Suisse 9 in Mies, Switzerland. Visit our General Information page for driving directions.

Our Philosophy Takes Language from Foreign to Familiar

Whether you’re a visitor to Switzerland, or an expatriate who plans to stay awhile, one of your first and most understandable concerns might be communication. Switzerland’s four national languages include German, French, Italian, and Rumantsch. This can be a daunting obstacle for any English speaking expat - ask a vet and they’ll tell you.

We at Cabinet Veterinaire International understand the frustration encountered by English speaking clients, particularly when combing through potential animal hospitals in search of kitten care, pet medication (heartworm, etc.), or remedies for cat health problems…especially when communication doesn’t flow freely. We understand a cat’s illnesses and symptoms can only be remedied if the looming language barrier is shattered.

Aside from Dr. Omaboe’s ability to fluently speak English, all of us at Cabinet Veterinaire International strive to provide your cat with the best, most compassionate, respectful, comfortable, modern, and holistic medical care possible. We know that your cat is one of the family, so we believe in treating your cat as one of our own.

Our Mission is to Make your Mission More Fluent

We, at Cabinet Veterinaire International, vow to persist in personal and professional development, and protection and improvements of cats’ health, while honestly and compassionately assessing each cat as an individual. We also vow to strive to enhance communication with clients by keeping stride with our diverse clientele’s needs, including our English speaking cat owners.

Cat Health Care Starts with Prevention

Animal hospitals can only be as good as the preventative care that they offer…because cat owners don’t get do-overs. Just as you maintain your own health with the help of yearly visits to your doctor and dentist, your cat’s longevity and health depend upon proper preventative care - beginning with first-class kitten care, through adulthood, and into specialized senior cat care.

When your pet’s veterinarian is able to speak English fluently, you are sure to understand all of the provisions that need to be taken to ensure the health of your cat, including:

  • Regular yearly health exams. Cats age up to 7 times more quickly than their human friends. Because of cats’ accelerated aging, annual check-ups, at a minimum, are required. Cat health problems can lie in hiding, detectable only by an animal doctor.
  • Regular dental cleaning and exams. Most cat owners might not associate tooth brushing with cat illnesses such as liver, kidney, and heart disease. But, when you regularly brush your cat’s teeth, you not only clean that mouth and freshen that breath, but you go a long way in the prevention of periodontal disease and its systemic effects.
  • Pet vaccinations provide cats with the armor they need to fight common illnesses. Skipping your pet’s vaccines can lead to debilitating, even deadly, health problems.

Don’t forget that contracting with an English speaking pet doctor will ensure that you understand all of the directives delivered during your cat’s visits to the vet. Your cat isn’t able to convey everything he or she is feeling. If you add that communication roadblock to a language barrier between you and the veterinarian, you’ll set the scene for gridlock. Thanks to Dr. Omaboe’s fluent English, the road is now open and ready for travel.

p.s. It has been said that any person who knows three languages is worth three people. “How,” you might ask, “does that apply to my quest in finding a vet?” Because, when a veterinarian knows three languages, he or she is capable of reaching out to three times the number of patients, is three times more likely to extract valuable information from various sources, and is three times more likely to bring all of that exposure back to the complete care of your cat.

p.p.s. Preoccupation with a language barrier can compromise the attention that your cat receives during his or her veterinary clinic visit. Cabinet Veterinaire International is among few animal hospitals that recognize this complication enough to make internal provisions for their English speaking clients. Dr. Omaboe’s ability to speak English fluently serves as a welcome mat for all English-speaking cat owners.

p.p.p.s. Skimping on your cat’s health care is certainly no investment for the future - your cat’s or your bank account’s. Complications that arise from the downgrading or elimination of any element of care cost far more than the simple preventative measures needed to allay those same cat health problems.
